I like this particular greek sculpture because it is not only a wonderful piece of art but it makes me remember Vergil's Aeneid and how this piece depicts a scene from that epic.
What do you think of the sculpture itself? What is your response to it? I think the interweaving lines are the thing that make it so interesting. Before this everything seems so isolated and stoic. Here is raw emotion and everyone is interconnected in a single event yet an event that supposedly served to shape a society.
I love how it looks like there is only one snake around all three of the men. Te way that this was sculpted was very well planned. The story behind it is also interesting to me.
I adore the detail not only in the drapery and podium that the statues are on, but I love the detail in the structure in the human body. The composition is AMAZING! And that had to have been one long snake to go around all three men.
